In April 2015 Gibson Shipbrokers employees purchased the company from Hunting PLC, after 122 years of association, through an Employee Benefit Trust.

Gibson Shipbrokers is the first UK shipbroker to become a fully independent, employee owned company, run on behalf of, and for the benefit of all worldwide employees of the company.

A Trust, including elected employee trustees, represents the interests of all employees, and acts independently of the Board to ensure the company is managed in the long-term interests of all employees.   

Employee ownership is bringing a positive change of culture to Gibson, with all employees encouraged to maximise their contribution to the company, and be involved with its development. 

A Staff Liaison Committee ensures that both the Board and Trustees are informed of ideas, views and opinions of staff.

Employees, as the assets of a ship broking company, are entitled to share the benefits of success, and profits will be either reinvested, or distributed to employees through a scheme administered by the Trustees. 

Employee ownership will provide stability and sustainability and will benefit not only employees, but also our valued clients.
